We know Mary Ann Cox was about 31 in 1888. Daniel Farson said he interviewed her niece and she said her aunt was just married and had a small child. Here's a candidate who had an 8 year old son Paolo from a previous marriage:

Mary Jane Cox said she was also a widow. Mary Jane Cox (Civati/Martin)'s husband appears to have died in the first quarter of 1888.
