Here's another possibility for the source of Jack's anatomical knowledge:

The Requirements of Freemasonry

We may now consider the spiritual requirements of one who feels that he would mystically correlate himself with that great spiritual fraternity which, concealed behind the exoteric rite, forms the living power of the Entered Apprentice lodge: 1. It is essential that the Entered Apprentice should have studied sufficiently the subject of anatomy to have at least a general idea of the physical body, for the entire degree is based upon the mystery of form. The human body is the highest manifestation of form which he is capable of analyzing. Consequently, he must devote himself to the study of his own being and its mysteries and complexities

So, based upon this do you believe that the Ripper was a Freemason?

Jack was somewhat versed in Masonic Lore. Mitre Square, Aprons, Juwes, blood oaths, basic anatomical knowledge, etc. He had to come by that knowledge by some means.

(I'd like to know what books the Masons would have used to study anatomy and if it included female anatomy.)

But I personally believe he was possibly an expelled member and that he was a relative of a Freemason like Albert Fish, the Brooklyn Vampire.

"Warfare in the Human Body" is worth a read.

I'd be suprised if our Jack was not a Freemason.
Family,place of birth,profession,etc.
Doubt it had much to do with the cover up though.

Mr Hyde wrote:"Warfare in the Human Body" is worth a read.
Here's an interesting, unattributed description about the book from Forgotten Books. It shows how someone with imagination can master anatomy as someone can master geography and street navigation without ever having hands-on or eyes-on experience.

"As I read over the manuscript pages of these essays, by my friend Morley Roberts, there came back to me the memory of a night in London, when I set out from a scientific meeting to guide a provincial colleague to his hotel through streets obliterated by a blinding November fog. The way was familiar to me, yet in the end the stranger from the country proved the better guide, for it was he who ultimate took us straight to our destination. By the mere use of his map-fed imagination my friend had mastered the details of London better than I had done after years of residence. Imagination with him had turned the dry and dusty maps, plans, contour-lines and guide books of a great city he had never seen into a living reality, in which he could find his way with confidence, and even offer help to befogged citizens."

It even sounds like Jack the Ripper. Someone like that has to be a Mason or interested in Masonry.

Someone on another site mentioned how Jack was all over the place when it came to targeting parts of the body.

Wouldn't Masonry be an explanation for the M.O.? Aren't they "all over the place" when it comes to bodily organs in their rituals?

Jack's patients were blackmailing him.

Nichols and Eddowes (Conway) were his inpatients together in 1867/8.

He knew exactly what he wanted.

The attempt at taking Chapman's head falls into a similar category.....who knew that her TB had likely progressed to her brain?

W.E. Gladstone's letter to the Times was not far off the mark.

Jack was most likely a Freemason.Meh!

Reckon he was steadily becoming extremely annoyed at those 5 women.

Eddowes was probably viewed as a friendly patient who should have known better and Mary Ann Kelly as the cause of it all.

Apart from that there was no real escalation from Jack.

Stride had two genetic disorders and was not "harvested" as a consequence.

The great grand daddy of today's serial killers.....was not a serial killer.

General layman knowledge of anatomy among Freemasons means the Ripper doesn't have to be a doctor.

The doctor theory, according to Bruce Robinson, came as a result of Masonic coverup by Dr. Wynn Baxter.

Once he finally got the details of the mutilation from his Masonic brother Dr. Phillips, he came up with the "American Womb Collector" theory.

The American was collecting wombs to include with the transcript of a book he was sending to his publishers, presumably about the pathology of the uterus.

Masonic thinking on the part of a Mason trying to get out of a jam jar.

Freemasons are interested in the laws of symmetry and proportion. This applies to human anatomy as much as architecture. Proper bodily proportions such as torso to whole body should accord with the Golden Mean.

There’s also the connotation of the body as a temple which should follow the laws of the Divine. It’s no different than Solomon’s Temple.
