MADE OVER 1,000 ARRESTS.
On his retirement from the Metropolitan Police Force after twenty-six years' service Warrant Officer Andrew Bates was yesterday presented with a handsome clock.
Nine years ago he was appointed warrant officer at Bow-street Police-court, and since that time he has served nearly 20,000 summonses and apprehended over 1,000 persons. He is a teetotaller, and has never had a day's illness in his life.
Superintendent Swanson on his retirement from the force, was also yesterday presented with a service of silver plate from his brother superintendents.
