Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?

Do you believe that Jack the Ripper was a doctor?
Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
Several doctors have given it as their opinion that Jack the Ripper was a medical man. What do you think?
Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
Jack the Ripper was not an MD.
Consequentially he would not have referred to himself as Dr.J.Ripper.
A number of Doctors involved in the case had a good idea who he was.
Dr.George Bagster Phillips would have considered him a peer.

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
Two days after the above post there was an interesting one on another site.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosector
Despite that poster's superior knowledge as a surgeon and lecturer with experience in "the field",the usual predictable barrage from Ripperologists ensued. With the exception of two posters.
Dr.Phillips was gagged. He knew who the Ripper was!

First reference.

If you are following that other thread, then why did Phillips not put Chapman's time of death back at least another hour or more?

Cholera is an infection of the small intestine.
Conducting over fifty autopsies during one epidemic alone would be a flying start in regard to experience.

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
We know he had Jews on his mind. It had to be for some reason.
Either he was religious or he was a doctor or a businessman...
If Jack was a 'john', then I'd go with businessman and doctor. Johns are usually above average income earners. They would go to the seedier side of town for anonimity. They'd blend in by being the 'respectable' ones above reproach. Dr. Jeckle.

He was C of E.
The manner in which he quoted St. Luke's Gospel suggests another affiliation.
He lived in very close proximity to a meeting place for some of the best Jewish minds in London.
His favorite philosopher was Jewish.
Same guy Adolph Hitler was reading in his final days.
He was not a "John" to any of the CV5.
Pun noted though.
(My father was called Jack.John Joseph Adams.RIP.)
His respectability ensured his protection.
That was the problem....he had been protected once too often.
The contents of the descending colon was in danger of hitting whatever passed for a fast rotating cooling device in those days.
I have to be a bit careful.
Someone on another site is getting close.
Still have a movie to make!

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
In my opinion what the Ripper did was butchery, not the sign of a trained surgeon or doctor.

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
Hello, Warrior,
Are you saying the Ripper was, in your opinion, nothing but a hack, hacking off limbs, etc. versus someone with surgical skill like a doctor?
Even a butcher has a certain amount of skill. Of course, they're dealing with dead carcasses.
I think some doctors were impressed enough with the organ removals to suggest the killer was a doctor, not because of professional skill, but because they considered the 'operations' strictly their domain.
People might think they could remove kidneys from living sujects and not need a professional...

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
Despite opinions given on Eddowes' mutilations,it was quite a feat in zero light.
More so given the time frame, with two policemen on the beat and other past and present experienced law enforcers close by.
The immediate area was crawling with them.
Note how quickly Robert Louis Stevenson's first cousin,Inspector Newcomen....oops, Major Henry Smith arrived at that square.
Also note the quick assignment of Abberline to the case.
Immediately after Nichols, the first victim died.
The medical profession was protecting one of it's own.
The police were covering their past deeds.
Have no doubt, Jack's identity was not the big secret we are led to believe.
Nor was the reason for the murders.

Re: Was Jack the Ripper a Doctor?
I am simply saying that, from what I have read and pictures I have seen, there is no reason to think that the person responsible had medical training, that a lay person could do what the Ripper did (providing that he was a homicidal maniac, of course). Just my opinion.

This could just mean that Jack knew his way around a woman in the dark.Mr Hyde wrote:Despite opinions given on Eddowes' mutilations,it was quite a feat in zero light.
A patron of prostitutes. With a Victorian Gray's Anatomy or a Masonic Gray's Anatomy.
