Trial of Mrs. Maybrick at Liverpool.

Mrs. Florence Maybrick pictured reading her statement in court. Mrs. Maybrick was accused of killing her husband, James Maybrick with poison. She moved from America to Liverpool in 1884, after marrying James Maybrick three years previously, when she was eighteen. James Maybrick often prescribed himself arsenic and strychnine to help with aches and pains, despite both his GP and wife warning him of the dangers. When he died on the 2nd May 1889 after having gastroenteritis, Florence was immediately arrested for murder. The post mortem gave little evidence into the cause of death, and only small amounts of poison were present in James's body. Florence Maybrick was sentenced to life imprisonment, but only served 15 years before moving back to America.
