Re: Mrs. Buki Or Mrs. Buckingham (Buckie)
Buckinham is an interesting possibility for Buki. How about Buchi? This residence looks more like a "dress lodging" with women of "independant means". Emily Buchi would be 20 in 1888. She was a visitor in a lodging house with her aunt in 1891 and in 1901 turns up as a servant to Oxford University Publisher Henry Foude when King Edward was Head Steward.

Re: Mrs. Buki Or Mrs. Buckingham (Buckie)
Thanks, Karen.
My first impression was that "Buki", by its spelling, indicates a long u like in Italian. I don't know why the newspaper would spell it that way if it was a short u like in Bucky. Although Emily Buchi does change her name to Bucke in subsequent censuses.
