De Jong In The Swedish Papers
The following news reports appeared in the Svensk Amerikanska (Swedish-American)Western from Colorado:
Holland.
The police proceeded this past week to make a pre-trial arrest, which has produced almost as much sensation, as the Deeming murders. A Dutchman named Henry De Jong married in June an Englishwoman named Sarah Jewitt. They spent their honeymoon in Holland. Suddenly the young wife disappeared without a trace. De Jong was believed to have obtained a divorce from his wife, because in August he married a Dutchwoman. Even she disappeared and the police became suspicious. Correspondence was initiated by the police in England and this led to the assumption that both wives had been secretly murdered. Even other similar crimes by de Jong have been committed. He has been arrested pending the acquisition of evidence.

Jack the Ripper found? Nieume Totterdamsche Courant reports, that in the wife-murderer de Jong's possession was found surgical instruments of the same class as those that Jack the Ripper undoubtedly must have used in the mutilation of unfortunate women. De Jong refused to give any information about what the purpose of the instruments were. Police believe they possess many supportive points for the assumption that de Jong is identical to Jack the Ripper.
