Revival Of Slumming
REVIVAL OF SLUMMING.
The Whitechapel Atrocities Have Given the Craze New Life.
Special Cable to the Globe.
LONDON, Oct. 9. - The newspapers continue to publish column after column of thin stuff about the Whitechapel murders, but no new theories are advanced, nor are there any signs that the old ones have any value. There is no abatement of popular interest and excitement, and everything points to a revival of the slumming craze of 1883 as the outgrowth of the recent tremendous influx of visitors to the East end districts. Already the public are asked to subscribe to a fund for the establishment of an immense laundry in which to provide work for magdalens, to establish lodging houses for street boys and girls, and in other ways to minimize the appalling measure of vice in the lower quarters of the metropolis.
