PLAY BAN MAY BE LIFTED.

Lord Chamberlain and Licence for "Jack the Ripper."

The Lord Chamberlain communicated yesterday with Mr. Andrew Melville, of the Grand Theatre, Brighton, stating that he may possibly grant a licence for the play "Jack the Ripper," which Mr. Melville was producing in Brighton next week, providing there are certain undertakings given.
At first the Lord Chamberlain refused to grant the licence, saying that the theme and title were "extremely undesirable."
