Scandal Fugitive
OTHER LANDS THAN OURS.
The tory government of England may be overthrown by a whirlwind of popular indignation excited by the vices of its own supporters. The scandal which now overshadows London society and threatens the heirs of illustrious names with disgraceful penalties is not without a recent precedent in the same circles. A similiar scandal was unearthed in Dublin a few years ago, and it compelled a complete reconstruction in official circles, although then, as now, the influence of the government was stretched to the utmost to protect the titled debauchees involved in the crime. The London scandal is the natural result of the condoning of the Dublin crime; it involves, according to report, even the prince who stands in direct line of succession to the English throne as well as a host of well born nobles, earls and viscounts, the heirs of the dukedoms and the darlings of society. The ruling class in England realizes that aristocratic institutions could not survive the disgrace of the imprisonment of the proudest nobles of the land for a crime the most detestable and infamous, and therefore, it is said, Lord Salisbury himself has stayed the hand of justice until the criminals should have the opportunity to escape. But what will the commons say when parliament meets?

A London Scandal Fugitive.
NEW YORK, Dec. 2. - [Special telegram to THE BEE.] - Charles Hammond, an Englishman who is supposed to have brought to this country papers proving the London scandal and who was sent from that country to prevent his giving testimony in the trial of the aristocratic criminals, is said now to be in Philadelphia. He stayed one night in this city and then went to Jersey City and thence to Philadelphia, where he was seen a few days since.

Another London Society Leader Gone.
[Special to THE HERALD - Examiner Cable.]
LONDON, Dec. 31. - The latest victim of London scandal is Mr. A.M. Broadley, for some time leading editor of the London World and the trusted friend and brother of Edmund Yates. This blackguard, whose record in India and Egypt was of the most revolting character, has, by reason of his journalistic connection, been able to cut quite a figure in London society. He belonged to a number of clubs, and only a few weeks ago he gave a dinner at the Savoy hotel which was attended by the lord mayor of London and three ex-mayors. Sir Kennett Barrington, Sir Victor Houlton, Sir Morrell McKenzie and other distinguished gentleman. It appears now that this man, whose real reputation was known to every Englishman who ever lived in India, was one of the members of the select West End coterie which has scandalized all England and disgraced humanity. He has run away from London and Mr. Yates is looking about for a new serial gossiper to give tone to his worshipful Tory organ.

The Cleveland Street Scandals.
[Special to THE HERALD - Examiner Dispatch.]
LONDON, Feb. 17. - [By cable to the New York World.] - The Cleveland street scandals have been submerged so long that the report is circulated that Labouchere has abandoned his intention and insists on parliament explaining why the aristocratic criminals were allowed to escape by the police. Labouchere said today his intention to investigate was as firm as ever, and he should vote on that account that it be fixed for an early day, when he will make an opportunity of bringing the matter forward. Failing that, he will immediately afterwards move an adjournment in order to discuss the subject.
